Pooja Gandhi, also known as Sanjana Gandhi, is a popular actress in Kannada film industry. She hails from Punjab. She studied in New Delhi Public School. Her father, Pawan Gandhi is a businessman. She left her studies midway during her first year graduation when she got an opportunity to act in a Bengali film. Since then, she has never looked back and has been associated with success in the South Indian film industry.

Career
She made her debut in the Bengali film 'Tomake Salam' released in 2003. She moved to South Indian film industry with the Tamil film 'Kokki' which went on to become a big flop. She has also acted in 'Dhamad Ke Intizaar' and has even finished a Tamil film 'Vaitheeswaran' opposite Sarath Kumar.

She entered the Kannada film industry with Mungaaru Male which was a big hit in Karnataka.

Pooja Gandhi has also acted in the Kannada movie Krishna, opposite "Comedy Time" Ganesh her co-actor in Mungaaru Male.

Videocon to start DTH services on May 1

Diversified business house Videocon Group is making an ambitious foray into the direct-to-home services with plans to garner one crore subscribers in the next six years.
The group, which made an announcement of Rs 1,000 crore for the DTH venture earlier, made a soft launch of its 'Videocon D2H' services last evening in Macau in front of its 2,500 dealers, who where specially flown in there.
“The full commercial roll-out will start from May 1. In the first year, we are looking at 15 lakh subscribers and add similar number every year. The target is to have one crore subscribers in six years,'' Videocon Group Chairman Mr Venugopal Dhoot told P TI. He said the company is set for a mega roll out of its DTH services as the 2,500 dealers will have around 15,000 showroom across the country.
“That gives us an advantage. Besides, we will also be offering TVs with in-built set-top boxes (STBs), which no one in the market offers,'' Dhoot said. He said over 40 engineers of the group spent nearly two years in developing the TV sets with in-built STBs. The DTH services will leverage on Videocon's brand equity.
“We had also unveiled a new brand logo for the group, which will be common for DTH, mobile services and the consumer durables segment,'' he said.

Videocon to launch DTH in OctoberVideocon that plans on launching its DTH service by the end of October, will be the only Direct to Home provider that will manufacture their own set top boxes and apart from that it will the next provider to offer MPEG 4 technology to its customers.
But what makes Videocons service so great that it would compete with Big, firstly unlike Big Entertainment who has been unable to give the media or the consumers a fixed launch date, Videocon seems to have planned out its execution and road map much better.
Anil Khera who was earlier in charge of Videocon's Sansui and Kelvinator is heading Videocons D2H services. Khera said, "We have taken six Ku-band transponders on SingTel's ST-1 satellite. We are investing Rs 10 billion over two years and are launching the DTH service by October-end."
Videocon will be manufacturing STBs in it factory in Aurangabad, this may be beneficial to consumers as they would be able to provide them with the STBs at a lower price point. While Big TV uses AsiaSat for its transmissions and buys STBs from manufacturers in China and Taiwan.
Although Videocon plans on launching with around 200 channels which will be close to forty less than Big, prices have always been important to the indian consumer, lets wait and watch as the Direct to home segment heats up, which will open a lot of doors to the Indian TV watcher.

Obama Speaks

President Obama said he will ask all of his department and agency heads for specific proposals for cutting their budgets at his Cabinet meeting early next week as he searches for ways to streamline government spending.

Obama, who is attending the Summit of the Americas in Trinidad this weekend, said in his weekly radio and Internet address that he would make the request for cuts Monday at a Cabinet meeting.

“In the coming weeks, I will be announcing the elimination of dozens of government programs shown to be wasteful or ineffective,” he said. “In this effort, there will be no sacred cows and no pet projects. All across America, families are making hard choices, and it’s time their government did the same.”

While discussing the need for more efficient government, Obama announced he was filling an administration position that caused him trouble on the last try. Obama said Jeffrey Zients, a CEO, management consultant and entrepreneur, will join the administration as the government’s chief performance officer and will also serve as deputy director for management of the Office of Management and Budget. He will work to streamline processes and cut costs, Obama said.

Also he said that he would soon announce the elimination of dozens of wasteful or ineffective government programs as part of a broad effort to restore fiscal accountability to the federal budget.Obama, speaking in his weekly radio address, said he would use his first full Cabinet meeting on Monday to ask department and agency heads for specific proposals for trimming their budgets.He named two new officials as part of a team of management, technology and budget experts that will drive the process of trimming the fat and waste from government spending."As surely as our future depends on building a new energy economy, controlling healthcare costs and ensuring that our kids are once again the best educated in the world, it also depends on restoring a sense of responsibility and accountability to our federal budget," Obama said."Without significant change to steer away from ever-expanding deficits and debt, we are on an unsustainable course," he added.The United States posted a record $956.8 billion budget deficit for the first half of fiscal 2009, more than three times the shortfall of a year ago, the Treasury Department reported earlier this month.Much of the deficit was caused by spending on financial and economic rescue programs aimed at propping up companies whose collapse could worsen the global recession.Obama said Cabinet officials already had begun cutting back unnecessary expenditures, including a consulting contract to create new seals and logos that cost Department of Homeland Security $3 million since 2003.The president also commended Defense Secretary Robert Gates' project to reform defense contracting procedures to eliminate what he said were hundreds of billions of dollars in wasteful spending and cost overruns."If we're to going to rebuild our economy on a solid foundation, we need to change the way we do business in Washington," Obama said. As the Secretary of Technology for the Commonwealth of Virginia, his job has been to ‘leverage technology in government reform, promote Virginia’s innovation agenda, and foster technology-related economic development with a special emphasis on entrepreneurship.’ But Chopra’s not a tech guy. Before he got his secretary job in 2005, he was a managing director at the Advisory Board Company, a public-market health care think tank, as well as an angel investor.”

Aneesh Chopra as the nation's first Chief Technology Officer. Chopra, who has effectively been doing much the same job at a state level in his role as Secretary of Technology for Governor Kaine of Virginia , will closely work with Vivek Kundra.

IPL 2009 Twenty20 Opening Ceremony

The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2009 twenty20 tournament kicks off on 17 April 2009 with a colorful opening ceremony to be held at Newlands, Cape Town. The attractive opening ceremony will be held after the two matches being taken place on Saturday. In the first match, Chennai Super Kings will take on Mumbai Indians, followed by the second match between Bangalore Royal Challengers and Rajasthan Royals. Eight teams will be involved in the 36-day cricket extravaganza. IPL 2009 is the second season of the league after its highly successful inaugural tournament held in India last year. I was a bit puzzled about the exact date and timing of the opening ceremony with some sources saying the opening ceremony will take place on 17 April. However, at last, I got to know that it will take place on 18 April after the two scheduled matches.

"On Saturday evening, after the two opening matches, fans will be treated to what looks to be an entertaining opening ceremony, which will include fireworks, acrobats, fire dancers and the rock group Snow Patrol, famous for hits such as Chasing Cars, Run and Signal Fire.
IPL 2009 was supposed to take place in India, but the tournament was shifted to South Africa last month after Indian government had informed IPL about their inability to provide adequate security to the tournament as there would be general election in the country at the same time."

Well, South Africa being the new host now seems to be well-prepared to organize the 59-match IPL T20 2009 tournament. On Thursday (16 April), a huge parade involving more than 150 cricketers from around the world as well as the bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty were held on Cape Town streets. Players of eight teams were riding on eight separate open-roof busses, while another bus was allocated for IPL. Amidst the performance of Indian dancers and local brass bands, the parade created lots of attraction and excitement among the local people of Cape Town. In fact, there were lots of people lining up on the street to experience the parade which featured some of world’s biggest cricket stars alongside some of the Indian movie stars who have world wide fan following.

You might think that IPL 2009 twenty20 tournament would not be able to feature an attractive opening ceremony because the tournament was relocated to South Africa just three weeks ago. Yes, I agree that staging a grand opening ceremony on such a short time notice is very tough, but IPL organizers have taken it as a challenge to present the cricket fans with a gala show during the opening ceremony of IPL 2009.

To be honest, I did not find enough information regarding the details of IPL 2009 opening ceremony. I do not know why IPL officials did not revel much on the opening ceremony of the second edition of IPL. May be, they want to give a big surprise to the cricket fans, but I think, it would have been better for the tournament if they informed the cricket fans regarding the activities of the IPL 2009 opening ceremony. Actually, I got shocked to see that there was not enough information about the timing of the opening ceremony in the official website of Indian Premier League (IPL).

As far as I came to know, IPL 2009 opening ceremony will feature some attractive shows and performances by Indian as well as foreign performers. First of all, all of the 8 IPL teams along with flag artists will enter into the Newlands stadium in Cape Town amidst huge amount of applause and performance by Indian and African Dejembe drummers. Performance of the drummers will definitely touch the hearts of millions of Indians across the world. Local Zulu dancers in their traditional cloths will perform their traditional dances.

A Pantsula dance performance by the Gum Boot Dancers, renowned international band Snow Patrol, a colourful swarm of “butterfly dancers” swaying and fluttering to music, acrobatic performances, a high power laser show, sky tracers, fire dancers and lots more form a part of the breathtaking Opening Ceremony of the biggest television event.

Moreover, there will be a glittering acrobatic show by the professional performers which will entertain the cricket fans to the fullest. Then there will be eye-catching fireworks by the fire dancers. Besides the Bollywood stars like Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty, who all are IPL franchise owners, some of the Hollywood stars will also be present at the opening ceremony of IPL 2009 twenty20 tournament. No doubt, the presence of Bollywood and Hollywood stars will glitz and glamour to the opening ceremony. Overall, IPL 2009 opening ceremony seems to be a glittering combination of top level performances by the high level professionals and the presence of Bollywood and Hollywood super stars.

Boston Police said that the man they believe murdered an aspiring actress in an upscale hotel room this week is also responsible for two other attacks on women, and that he possibly met them through their advertisements on the Web site Craigslist. Boston police search for young man suspected of killing a massage therapist.Julissa Brisman, 26, weighed about 100 pounds, not enough to overpower the man who showed up in her room at the Copley Place Marriott Tuesday night and shot her to death before fleeing the scene.
While her advertisement on Craigslist -- a site with ads that has been tied to other crimes across the country -- offered her services as a massage therapist, investigators have other ideas.
"The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim may have been involved with an escort service," Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said. "Detectives are investigating the possibility that this was an attempted robbery."

Remember Miranda Tozier-Robbins from American Idol season 5? Yeah, me neither. Well, the 26 year old ex American Idol contestants went crazy when she decided to stalk Britney Spears at her private residence in Calabasas. Security personnel guarding the property of Britney Spears noticed a camouflage wearing person creeping around the windows to the residence, went to check out on the situation and found Miranda Tozier-Robbins taking peeks inside, while carrying a backpack with a video camera inside. That must be the most boring celebrity stalker story ever. I thought stalker are more creative - you know, like they get in the house through the chimney, pack themselves up in a cupboard and quietly jerk off snooping at them through tiny gap. 21st century stalkers suck.
According to reports, when security people told Miranda Tozier-Robbins to leave as she was on a private property and could be charged with trespassing, she disregarded their requests and stalked on hoping for an encounter with Britney Spears. The security didn’t put up with any of that and called sheriffs people who removed Miranda Tozier-Robbins from the property. HIGH COURT ISSUES CONTEMPTNOTICE

HC issues contempt notices to Sakshi

The AP High Court on Monday issued suo motu contempt notices to Sakshi newspaper, Sakshi TV channel and Ahobila Rao (Billy Rao) of IMGBharata for dragging the name of the A P High Court into a sting episode.A division bench comprising Justice Goda Raghuram and Justice P V Sanjay Kumar, which had earlier reserved its order on the IMG land case and is yet to deliver its order, specially sat on Monday though it was a holiday, in view of the latest developments.
Billy Rao, whose organisation IMG Bharata was allotted 850 acres of land on the outskirts of Hyderabad by the previous TDP regime at a nominal cost, had approached the court challenging the order of the present state government which cancelled the allotment.While the TDP regime allotted the land for developing sports and games infrastructure, the Congress regime cancelled it saying that IMG Bharata has nothing to do with sports and that it is a bogus outfit created only for the purpose of cornering valuable lands.
In the alleged sting operation carried out by Sakshi, Billy Rao was heard making many claims that he would succeed in this litigation.
The bench also ordered the DGP of the state to conduct an inquiry into the whole episode and submit a report. Contempt notices were issued to chief minister’s son and the chief of Sakshi Media Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, his news directors S Ramakrishna Reddy and Priyadarshini Ram as well. They have been ordered to respond to the notices and the matter was posted to June 2 for hearing.

Sourav Ganguly has been removed as captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the reins handed over to New Zealand's dashing wicketkeeper-batsman Brendon McCullum in the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) beginning here on Saturday.

Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Friday said Mumbai attack terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Kasab should not be provided any legal help and be hanged publicly near the Gateway of India.
"Why should Kasab be provided legal help? There is public demand that he should be hanged near Gateway of India and no time should be lost in trial," Thackeray said in an editorial in Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana'.
Alleging that Kasab was being treated as a "guest", the Sena chief said "Kasab's mother, who is coming to visit his son in prison, would now be given treatment as if she was a 'veermata' (martyr's mother)". He further said that Kasab's lawyers have not gauged the public fury and were "playing" with the country's prestige by being in the limelight through the case.

In Addition 2 Videocon DTH Services

After delaying for many times, Videocon Industries has finally announced the day to roll out its much-awaited DTH services.
The India-based electronics goods maker said that it will launch the service on April 27 under the name of ‘D2H+’.
In this way, Videocon will join the DTH space with other biggies, which had already launched DTH services in the country, including Dish TV, Sun TV, Doordarshan, Tata Sky, Big TV and Airtel.
The sources close to the development stated that Videocon will launch inbuilt digital TVs (iDTVs) and set top boxes (STBs) having 4-5 subscription choices.
The company has set an aim to sell 70-80% IDTVs and 20% STBs. The recent reports said that STBs will be imported from Korea or China and afterward produced at the company's Aurangabad facility.
In the first round, the product will hit major cities and not rustic regions in India. The reason behind this is that Videocon thinks that launching in part would assist it gaineing and covering big part and provide better service.
At present, the company is examining the STBs by installing at employees' homes without charging any cost. In addition, the company is presently ensuring a strong sales network and has been recruiting sales and service staff through its media arm, Bharat Business Channel.
With the latest venture, the company is aiming a subscription base of 10 per cent in the first year of launch

Videocon is going to launch their much awaited DTH venture - called as D2h- Direct To Home service this April all over India on 27th. The service is going to be launched with 1050 distributors and 75000 retailers along with media arm Bharat Business Channel and a strong sales & service staff.After 6 companies in India, this is going to be the seventh company in India with each of them already in huge losses because of the starter offers, competition price wars and investments, but these companies are sure that they would make their money back in the future once they have got established in the market with huge number of subscribers.
The company is planning to launch with 5-6 different packages, the company is planning to sell away 70-80 per cent IDTVs[ and 20 per cent STBs in the first year trying to capture 10% of the total . Lets see with these price wars will the company be able to sustain the expenses and reach their not.

Bassein Fort :

Built by Bahadur Shah - Sultan of Gujarat from 1526 -1537, this fort was intended to guard the coast against foreign powers. The fort passed hands from the Sultan to the Portuguese, Marathas and finally the British in pre independence India. Known for its raw architectural beauty, Bassein Fort is a popular tourist spot.

The Bassein Fort is the Sea fort in Vasai Road, which is a suburb towards north of Mumbai. Vasai Road is the third last station on the western railway towards Virar. It falls in Thane District on the mainland just north of the Bombay archipelago. It was established by the Portuguese as the headquarters of their Indian operations in 1534 and centre of their operations until 1739. With this as the main base, they built other smaller forts such as the Castella de Aguada, and strong houses in many of the islands in Pakistan.
In the 18th century, the fort was attacked by the Maratha army under Peshwa Baji Rao's brother Chimaji Appa, and fell in 1739 after a three year long campaign.
The ramparts overlook Vasai creek and are almost complete, though overgrown. Several watch-towers still stand, with safe staircases leading up.
The Portuguese buildings inside the fort are in ruins, although there are enough standing walls to give a good idea of the floor plans of these structures. Some have well-preserved façades. In particular, many of the arches have weathered the years remarkably well. They are usually decorated with carved stones, some weathered beyond recognition, others still displaying sharp chisel marks.
Three chapels inside the fort are still recognisable. They have façades typical of 17th century Portuguese churches. The southernmost of these has a well preserved barrel vaulted ceiling.
The fort is often used for shooting Bollywood film scenes. The films shot here include Josh, Khamoshi, Ram Gopal Verma's Aag etc.
Besides all the wonderful structures one should not miss observing the wonderful nature that has taken over the dilapidated parts of the fort. It is a great place to observe butterflies, birds, plants and reptiles.
